Transportation around Bangkok can be confusing.

The main types of transportation in Bangkok are:

  • Bus
  • BTS: the above ground “Skytrain” system
  • MRT: the underground train system
  • Airport Link Line: another above ground train system connecting to the Suvarnabhumi airport
  • BRT: a special bus line with limited stops
  • river and canal “water taxis”: boats along the Chao Praya river and other canals in Bangkok
  • Motocy: motorcycle taxis
  • tuktuks: auto-rickshaws

Fares:

 

  • Orange air-conditioned buses, 11-24 baht depending on distance
  • New yellow air-conditioned buses, 10-12
  • Non-air conditioned buses with fans, 8-9 baht
  • Red buses (non-air conditioned), 7 baht
  • After 10.00pm 1.5 Baht extra
  • About half of the red buses are free
  • Tickets bought on board, change is given
  • All kinds of buses operate all routes
