Thailand’s Laws Related to Refugees

Thailand does not have any laws that recognize or protect urban refugees in Thailand. There are laws and agreements related to camp refugees, but there are no laws that discuss urban refugees.

This means that there are no special visas for urban refugees and no way for urban refugees to get Thai citizenship based on their status as refugees. Thailand does not grant residency permits or work permits to urban refugees. Working in Thailand without a work permit is illegal.

Thailand does not provide any welfare or social service programmes specifically for urban refugees.
